Everybody's talking about this

Dear ETR Reader -

Everybody's talking about it.

By "it" I mean making money on the Internet selling either information products or merchandise.

Every day you're bombarded by promotions telling you how easy it is to "get rich quick" online.

So you buy these expensive products, study them thoroughly, follow all the instructions... and lo and behold, you're still not rich!

The problem is that it's almost impossible to master the fine points of information marketing from a packaged course taught by someone whose only "expertise" is selling marketing courses!

You need an experienced teacher to help you avoid the common pitfalls and finally achieve online success.

Now you can get step by step guidance from not one but 9 of today's top Internet marketing gurus - including Perry Marshall, Rich Schefren, Michael Masterson, and Drayton Bird - at this year's ETR Info-Marketing Bootcamp.

Combined, these Internet marketing pros have collectively sold millions of dollars on the Internet, either directly or for their clients.

Now they want to help you break through the barriers that have been holding you back and start generating cash flow on the Internet. See below for details....

Best Regards,

Jason Holland

Early to Rise

Here’s an Idea That Can Earn You Thousands of Dollars on the Internet and Is Already Proven to Work Like Gangbusters….

It’s true: Just one great idea … one clever marketing technique … one terrific contact … one profitable joint venture deal you make at the 2010 Early to Rise Information Marketing Conference can:

Explode your sales.
Skyrocket your revenues.
Take your business to the next level.

Dear Friend:

If the Internet were static, we wouldn’t have to assemble the finest minds in marketing in beautiful Delray Beach Florida every November for ETR’s annual Info Marketing Conference.

But the Internet isn’t static. It’s dynamic. Changing at a dizzying pace. And Internet marketing is changing right along with it at breakneck speed.

What was revolutionary last year is already old hat. Techniques that worked like gangbusters even a few months ago have been superseded by red-hot marketing strategies that are setting records for traffic and revenues.

Last year, marketers were obsessed with SEO (organic search). This year, social media is all the rage, along with mobile marketing.

But what about the next big thing in Internet marketing? Just who is it that’s making today’s most important ground-breaking discoveries in pay per click, list building, traffic generation, search engine optimization, affiliate marketing, social networking, and Internet selling?

These innovators are the “big boys” of Internet marketing. You know. The legends. The guys who rake in $75,000 in a one-day launch – or spend tens of thousands of dollars a day on Google AdWords – or bring in tens of thousands of dollars a month from their high-end coaching programs. The very folks who we invite to train you at our annual Info Marketing Conference.

Discover exactly which info-marketing giants are making the biggest waves today... And find out how YOU can meet them and learn all their secrets this November... by reading on right here.

Dear Raja,

I can hardly believe it but there are just 2 days left in July...

Independence Day celebrations came and went so quickly...Now we're headed for the home stretch of 2010. So you should ask yourself...Are you any closer to reaching the goals you set back in January?

It's really amazing to see the planning and preparation that goes on behind the scenes to celebrate our country's freedom. But none of it would be possible without some careful planning and with a definite goal in mind.

What can you learn from Independence Day? Our forefathers had a dream. A big dream to form an independent sovereign nation. To achieve their dream, they had to make a plan. They had to set and achieve many goals along the way. They overcame insurmountable obstacles.

So you might say our freedom rests in the ability to set and achieve goals. While you probably won't be setting the kinds of goals our founding fathers did...if you want to enjoy a free and happy life, you will be setting a few important goals for yourself.

Over the last four decades, I have helped thousands of people, just like you, to reach their dreams. In fact, I've developed an easy to use program which guarantees your success.

All you do is follow my simple, step-by-step instructions and you'll be closer to reaching your most important goals than you ever thought possible. My Goals! 2010 Special 2nd Edition Book Release Package was designed with you in mind.

If you're not getting what you want in life...come along as I virtually take you by the hand and lead you to your field of dreams.

Get what you want now.

As you start your personal goals program, I will guide you step-by-step until you achieve success. Then as you set bigger and bigger goals again, I'll be right there with you, cheering you on.

You've got absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. Wouldn't you be happier if you knew you could get what you want...faster and easier? Now you can.

Go ahead and enjoy your Independence Day, not just today, but every day. You really can make your dreams come true. Discover how your dreams can come true.

To your success!

Brian Tracy

P.S. As you plan your successful future, today, keep one thing in mind. You can succeed in achieving all your goals...all you have to do is want it. What's holding you back?

Instantly achieve your goals now.

My Favorite 25 Quotes About Adversity

Ever had one of those days? Of course you have… we all have.  What’s more, we’ll continue to have “those days.”  Heck, sometimes we overachieve and have “those weeks.”

Been there. Done that.

Below are my CURRENT favorite 25 quotes about adversity.  The ones in bold?  They’re my absolute favoritest of all.

The darkest hour has only sixty minutes. – Morris Mandel

Have the courage to face a difficulty lest it kick you harder than you bargained for. – Stanislaus I, Maxims

Adversity has the same effect on a man that severe training has on the pugilist: it reduces him to his fighting weight. – Josh Billings

Despair is anger with no place to go. – Mignon McLaughlin,"The Neurotic's Notebook"

To have become a deeper man is the privilege of those who have suffered. – Oscar Wilde

You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best you have to give. – Eleanor Roosevelt

Talking about your grievances merely adds to those grievances. Give recognition only to what you desire. – Thomas Dreier

Good timber does not grow with ease; the stronger the wind, the stronger the trees. – J. Willard Marriott

Problems are only opportunities with thorns on them. – Hugh Miller, "Snow on the Wind"

I don't like people who have never fallen or stumbled. Their virtue is lifeless and it isn't of much value. Life hasn't revealed its beauty to them. – Boris Pasternak

We have no right to ask when a sorrow comes, "Why did this happen to me?" Unless we ask the same question for every joy that comes our way. – Philip E. Bernstein

Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones. And when you have finished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake. – Victor Hugo

ETR: The Death of Direct Mail

Issue No. 3069 - $1.00

Thursday, July 29, 2010

-----------------------------------------------------Highly Recommended-----------------------------------------------------

If There's One Thing Truly Successful People Know ... it's that "dreaming" about success won't get you anywhere. You must take action. That's first. Next, you need somebody who's been there before to guide you. Success mentor Bob Cox has built multimillion-dollar businesses, advised billionaires, and helped people around the world achieve their dreams. Why not let him help you?

"You can always find some expert who will say something hopelessly hopeless about anything."

Peter McWilliams

Hark Unto the Wisdom of Tom Evans, Folks... With Distinct Scepticism
By Drayton Bird

A while back, my Australian partner Malcolm Auld sent me a piece by a marketing expert named Tom Evans, which stated that "direct mail for customer acquisition is dead." You should still put your money into direct marketing, said Tom -- but do it online.

After reading that, I rushed to the phone as fast as my little legs would carry me. I had a client who was sending out 48 million direct-mail pieces a year to get business. I had to warn him.

He needed to know that the game was up. Direct mail was dead. Run for your lives, everyone!

But he pooh-poohed my warning.

"We're the only big firm in our industry doing well," he said. "Everyone else is in a mess. Our main competitor can't even service their bank loans. I think I'll just ignore this Tom Evans chap, being as we're doing so well."

Every time I hear that something is dead, especially if it comes from an expert, I remember Mark Twain's reaction after reading his own obituary in a newspaper. The telegram he sent to the editor read, "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

In his piece, Tom Evans presented what he considered to be compelling evidence that direct mail for customer acquisition is finished. The evidence: Direct-marketing spending decreased by 12 percent over the last year, driven by a shift away from direct mail and promotional material delivered door-to-door. And the top 10 direct-mail users had spent 40 percent less on direct mail.

Not only that, but he quotes Justin Basini, vice president of marketing for Capital One bank (once a top three direct-mail user), as saying that they were getting out of direct mail and putting their customer acquisition "resources" (which is marketing-speak for money) into online marketing. "Sending out loads of direct mail with [credit card] application forms isn't working anymore," said Basini.

From all this it is but a short leap to conclude, as Tom did, that "direct mail will always be important and it will still play a large part in direct marketing for many years to come, especially with regards to customer retention. However as a vehicle of customer acquisition it's finished. Digital does the job more cost effectively and in a word, better."

But, unlike Capital One, my client was not in the financial services business. He was in home-improvement. And what works for a financial services business doesn't apply to everyone.

And there is more naivety in Tom's piece. On the matter of lead generation, he says that when you generate leads online, "the Cost per Acquisition model... is a no-lose and no-risk proposition. Marketers can simply request a set number of sales leads for a guaranteed fixed cost. If the lead quality is up to par, calculating the ROI is straightforward."

The man inhabits wonderland. This would be true -- except for one thing. As more and more businesses recognize the joys of online customer acquisition, more and more will be willing to pay more and more to get those leads... or settle for fewer.

The same thing happened with e-mail marketing. Once it got amazing results. Now it doesn't.

And guess what the smart people in online marketing are doing? They're telling everyone to start testing offline. So whilst I -- and most of my clients -- have switched many of our efforts online, we are not so foolish as to believe that this is the only means of succeeding. We are interested in integrating our efforts.

Yes, it is true that, right now, online marketing in general tends to return a better ROI, but it is also true that many online marketers are being more imaginative than the direct mailers.

Not long ago, for example, I wrote a direct-mail promotion that doubled response for an insurance firm. It wasn't because my stuff was so brilliant but because what these people had been running was so bloody awful.

It has been about 10 years since a drunken creative director in a bar in Kuala Lumpur told me (I was not exactly sober either) that e-mail would kill direct mail. Now Tom Evans -- whose chief interest in publishing his words of wisdom, of course, is to attract clients -- says online is the answer to a maiden's prayer.

And so it is, and will be for a while. But in the long term, results will determine where marketers put their money. As Bertrand Russell remarked, "What men seek is not knowledge, but certainty." You won't find it in just one medium or one marketing discipline. That's kindergarten stuff.

The Tables Have Turned

Right now, corporate America is getting filthy rich off of you. They do it every time you shell out money for almost any item -- large or small. Their profits come from massive mark-ups on imports from places like China, where a widget may cost a buck or two but sells here for $19.95.

But now, the tables have turned on the corporations -- thanks to the Internet and our global economy. And you can be the one reaping windfall profits from the import business. Best part: You can easily run your entire business online, with no employees, no previous experience or knowledge, and with as little as $50 in start-up costs.

Learn how you can get started right now!

What Do You Want Your Life to Look Like?

"Over the years, I have participated in any number of personal coaching systems. I have had the pleasure of talking with a number of very good, highly qualified coaches both in person and by telephone. Yesterday, Bob Cox set the coaching bar to record heights.

"During the entire conversation, I felt completely heard. It was obvious to me that I had 100% of his attention. Bob spoke from his own experience and spoke to what he knew to be true, not what he thought or what he theorized.

"Bob spoke clearly and concisely. His attitude was refreshing in that it was obvious that he did not have an agenda to pursue. He wanted me to really understand where I was stuck, and I got it.

"Bob provided a number of concrete action steps that I began taking today. These steps will begin the path to achieving the results I want. I am answering the question 'What do I really want my life to look like?'

"Thanks so much for your generosity yesterday, Bob. Talking with you really clarified a number of things for me, as well as forced me to face some pretty hard truths.

"I look forward to paying your kindness forward."

What's a "Perfect Home Business"?

Ask 100 of your fellow Early to Risers to describe their "Perfect Home Business," and 99 of them would probably say something like this...

"Well, first of all, it's got to be based on something I actually enjoy -- a hobby or passion of mine."
Sounds good so far...

"And... let's see... I don't have a lot of spare time (or money!)... so it would have to be quick and easy to start... and fairly cheap too."

Fair enough...

"Oh, and I'm no technical or marketing genius. So I need something that doesn't take a Ph.D. just to make a few extra bucks."

Understood.

At Early to Rise, we've heard you loud and clear!

You asked... now we're going to deliver.

The Language Perfectionist: A Useful New Language Resource

By Don Hauptman

Given the depressed state of literacy, the appearance of an excellent new guide to grammar, style, and usage is an occasion for rejoicing.

The Accidents of Style by Charles Harrington Elster, just published, is a volume every writer should have at hand. It will help you polish your prose, express your ideas more clearly, and avoid numerous errors.

The title is a clever play on Strunk and White's classic The Elements of Style. But although that 51-year-old reference book is still helpful, Accidents goes well beyond it, with 350 wry and well-reasoned essays on topics that Messrs. Strunk and White probably didn't need to consider half a century ago.

"Accidents of style" are common mistakes, and Elster has fun with the metaphor: "This book shows you how to steer around the ruts and potholes.... It's a crash course in careful usage."

Elster is an authority on the English language. He has written books on, among other things, vocabulary building and pronunciation. Like me, he's a purist and prescriptivist who also recognizes that the rules occasionally need revising and updating.

If you recall boring grammar lessons from your school days, fear not. Elster is an entertaining writer and he festoons his book with mischievous observations and asides. The following sampling will give you a sense of both the book's content and the author's puckish and sometimes barbed approach:

  • On the word impact: "This powerful word, which traditionally connotes considerable force, has lost all its forcefulness through incessant repetition [both as noun and verb].... I, for one, will continue to boycott this word in all its monstrous forms...." Alternatives: effect and influence.

  • On the word kudos: "Kudos is a singular noun"; there is no such thing as a kudo. Also: "The word ought to be reserved for praise given for illustrious, or at least significant, achievement and not used as a pseudoliterary substitute for congratulations...."

  • On the vogue word issues: "This trendy euphemism, which may have come from the jargon of psychology or from the lingo of politics, avoids the perceived stigma and sting of problems and allows us to allude to difficulties without admitting that they exist.... Why do we shrink from saying what we mean [and instead] reach for this mealymouthed, weasel word issues?"

  • "Adverbiage is... the overuse or awkward use of adverbs.... I will consider it conveys more promise of serious attention than I will seriously consider it. I reject the allegation is firmer and more confident than I utterly reject the allegation."

  • On opening with "Let me see....": "This lamest of rhetorical devices is invariably a setup, a con, the prelude to a haughty diatribe in which the writer displays his superior reasoning and confirms the stupidity of others by demolishing a straw man, usually with a lethal dose of sarcasm."

The Accidents of Style offers much more: Advice on the proper use of punctuation (apostrophes, commas, quotation marks) and spelling (it's espresso, not expresso and supersede, not supercede), and guidance on avoiding redundancies (close proximity, fellow colleagues), "confusables" (anxious vs. eager, emulate vs. imitate, flaunt vs. flout), and cliches and slang (at the end of the day, on the same page). In addition, the book contains quizzes to test your knowledge, tips to improve your writing, and even funny bloopers.

Unlike most other language guides, the structure of Accidents isn't alphabetical by subject. Instead, the entries begin with simple matters, then become progressively more complex. The index will help you find what you're looking for. The book can be used either as a reference or read straight through. Both routes will prove rewarding.

My one complaint is that Elster occasionally comes across as a bit of a curmudgeon, deriding those who don't do things in his approved way. But considering how permissive most dictionaries and language authorities have become, a martinet may be just what we need to restore some balance. I learned a lot from The Accidents of Style. You will, too.

** Inspirational Money and Business Quote **
---------------------------------------------------

Capital isn't so important in business. Experience isn't so important. You can get both these things. What is important is ideas. If you have ideas, you have the main asset you need, and there isn't any limit to what you can do with your business and your life.
- Harvey Firestone

** Article: The Difference Between "Need" and "Want" - By Craig Nathanson **
---------------------------------------------------

Let's face it: Most people spend way too much money on things they don't really need. The more money we make, the more we tend to spend. This endless cycle of materialism has led many people to confuse the word "need" with the word "want." As in, "we need a big-screen TV for our new home theater." Or, "I need a new pair of shoes to go with my new outfit."

If you want to achieve your vocational passion, where every day you jump out of bed and can't wait to go to work, then you need to re-order your priorities. Stay away from the purely material.

The pursuit of material success often is the root cause of burnout at midlife. In fact, a recent study at the University of California at Berkeley found that people primarily motivated by the love of their work grow dissatisfied as they begin to make more money.
The first step to breaking free from the materialism trap is to understand the difference between "need" and "want."

We need food, clothing, shelter, reliable transportation, education, enrichment, and the technology necessary to do our work. Also, we need the occasional small indulgence to treat our children and ourselves.

We do not need 500 cable TV channels, brand new luxury cars, 5,000-square-foot homes in exclusive neighborhoods, lavish ski vacations, and smart phones that do everything but think for us.

There is nothing wrong with wanting these things. But understand that these things do not make us happy, in and of themselves. And, they are often links in the chains that bind us to jobs we despise.

Often, those who make a leap to vocational passion end up making more money over the long term. But in the short term, income usually declines. It may even go away for a period of time. Typically, the first two years of a career change -- in particular, one motivated purely by vocational passion -- are financially difficult. Major lifestyle and attitude adjustments are critical to making the money last while you pursue your dream.

The amazing thing is that once you learn to live on less, it becomes a habit. The peace of mind that comes from relying less on materialism to define success usually leads to a greater and deeper happiness.

Getting Real About Money

So. Now we understand that pursuing vocational passion requires a major adjustment in our attitude toward money and material comfort. The next step is getting down to the details.

What does it take to transform yourself and your family from a unit that consumes as much as it earns to one that respects money and makes it last?

The trick is to look at all expenses, both big and small. Leave no stone unturned. No savings is too small, and no category of spending should be free from scrutiny.

Those looking to leave a job to pursue a vocational passion face two core issues: raising enough money to fund a career change, and changing spending patterns to make the money last. Raising the money can be a tremendous challenge, depending on your financial resources. Savings, bonds, securities, IRAs, home equity, jewelry, valuables, and family resources are all avenues for raising capital to sustain your family during this transition.

Consider these options to cut down your burn rate. Some will seem dramatic. But if you have decided that your only chance at happiness is to pursue a vocational dream, small measures won't cut it.

• If you live in a "McMansion," consider selling it. You could use the proceeds to buy a smaller house in a less expensive neighborhood. That would leave you with no mortgage or a much smaller "nut" to make each month. Whatever the size of your home, you can go a step further and use 100% of the proceeds of a home sale as working cash for the transition, then rent a house instead. Seeking the advice of a tax attorney or a financial planner may be wise, particularly when you are selling your home or using it as security on a loan. But, do not let these advisers sway you from your core decisions. They are there only to give you advice on the smartest way to pursue the path you have chosen.

• Consider part-time or project-based work in the field you are moving out of to supplement your income during the transition. Also, look generally to part-time work as a way to slow your burn rate. Ask each eligible member of your family to contribute toward supporting the household.

• Evaluate your home, car, and health insurance costs. Are you over-insured? Can you raise your deductibles? This often can reduce premiums significantly. Also, health insurance rates for small businesses, even those with one or two employees, are often more favorable than individual policies.

• Take a look at what you drive. Is it a "badge" brand imported car? Is it a "suburban assault vehicle?" There are many presentable, economical cars with good long-term reliability that can be purchased used. Sell your status symbol and buy one of these other cars instead. You will save on car payments, gas and insurance. You will be better off the minute you stop trying to impress people with what you drive.

• Let your children fund a little more of their own college education. Student loans are not a lifelong burden, and in fact many successful people have paid for their education this way. So can your children. They will still love you.

• Sweat the small stuff. Look at every element of your daily spending and ask whether it is necessary. Do you have features on your phone service that you never use? How many videos do you rent every week? (They are free at the local library, by the way.) How important are those premium cable channels? How many pizzas did you order last month? How much do you spend every day on designer coffee, soft drinks, and fast food? How much do you spend on dinners at nice restaurants? Take a look at what's in your grocery cart. How much of it is snack food or impulse buys that are both bad for you and a waste of money? If you still need a reason to quit smoking, the $5-plus per pack you are spending ought to finally get you to give up that habit. Is your home well insulated, or does money in the form of energy fly out the window? Do you turn out the lights when you leave a room? How much do you waste each year on late fees for credit cards or overdue videos? How necessary is each short trip you take in the car? Can you combine trips, or make small, local errands on foot or on your bike, (which saves money and burns calories)?

Make the effort to evaluate everything you do. You'll be amazed by the amount of money you can save.

** Article: Ecommerce Marketing Tip: 5 Strategies For Writing Titles That Get Your Emails Opened - By Lisa Suttora **
---------------------------------------------------

Email marketing is one of the BEST tools that you can use to grow your business on eBay, Amazon and beyond. Sending out newsletters, sales and promotions to your customers is one of the best ways to sell more products more often.

However, there's an important KEY to successful email marketing that most people overlook, and that is...

The TITLE of Your Email

In fact the way you title your email is SO important, the success of your email marketing campaign depends on it.

Why an Email Title is Important

In your eBay listings your 55 character listing title is the "map" that helps searchers find your listings in eBay's search engines.

With email marketing, your title serves one primary purpose...To get your email OPENED!

Because an email that's not opened will never be read. And an email that's not opened will be the target of the delete key. Therefore it's key to write an email title that will get your email opened and read.

The payoff for you? A great email title and newsletter will bring you more customer sales!

Motivating People to Open Your Emails

Most sellers tend to send out emails with fairly generic email titles. For example: eBay Seller Email: Save money! Shop my eBay Store for great deals

New in my store

Check this out!

Winter Clearance Sale

And while there's nothing inherently wrong with these email titles, there's also nothing engaging about them either. They are all fairly generic email subject titles.

You certainly can intermix generic titles into your email campaign, but use them as the exception not the rule.

You might think that writing an intriguing email title requires a lot of work. Not so!

With the knowledge you're about to gain in the next section (and a little help from a tried and true writers tool )you'll be writing effective emails titles in no time!

5 Strategies for Writing Titles that Get Your Emails Opened

Next we're going to look at 5 different strategies you can use to get those emails opened!
These 5 kinds of email titles will engage your reader and inspire them to OPEN your email!

1. Target your email title to your customers' interests. The more specific the better. If you're sending an email in which you want to promote your vintage lace linens, rather than using a generic email title such as "Check Out Our New Linens" create a more specific title such as "Introducing Our One of a Kind Vintage Lace Linens."

Generic title: Check Out Our New Linens

Targeted title: Introducing Our One of a Kind Vintage Lace Linens

As you can see, the 2nd title targets a very specific audience and arouses curiosity about the new, unique linens you've just brought in stock. Which brings us to our second strategy...

2. Arouse Curiosity. People are naturally curious. And we like having our curiosity peaked! An email title that peaks your reader's curiosity is likely to get opened.

For example...

The owner of a pet products store could write an email newsletter with a title of..."The Top 3 Things Every Poodle Owner Must Possess..."

A seller who wants to promote flat irons (for your hair) in their email marketing newsletter might write..."How to Turn Your Unruly Hair into a Sleek and Shiny Mane."

By using an element of curiosity in your email title people will want to click on your emails and see what's inside!

Note: Do NOT make your curiosity emails SPAMMY or MISLEADING. Curiosity alone with no substance will turn people off. If you are going to use an element of curiosity in your title, make sure you follow through on your promise and deliver the "goods" within the email content.

If you are promoting "The Top 3 Things Every Poodle Owner Must Possess..." - your email must follow through and share those top 3 things with your customer.

Misleading email titles are even worse. "Loose 150 lbs in 30 days" is simply untrue and will cause your readers to immediately delete your email.

3. Use Urgency. No one wants to miss the big "it". That one thing they wished they'd known about. Email titles that convey urgency will ensure that your customers at least give your email a quick glance! (Once they're reading you can grab them with your copy!)

Your email title can contain an element of scarcity.

For example:

"It ends tonight at midnight!"

"Only 4 vases left."

"20% off for the next 24 hours."

As with curiosity emails, urgency emails must follow through. If you're promoting a sale that ends at midnight, it MUST end at midnight. Using a sense of urgency in your emails but not backing it up by doing what you say you're going to do will cause your customers not to trust you.

And that will kill all chances of your prospect ever reading an email (or buying from you) again.

But if you DO have limited quantities of a product or the sale IS ending in 24 hours - writing an email title with a sense of urgency is a great way to promote it!

Note: Fostering a relationship with your customers that is built on trust is the best thing you can do to build a successful business! As the old saying goes "You must walk the talk."

4. Tell a story. We all love stories. It's part of human nature. Creating an email title that is a lead-in to a story can be very intriguing to your buyers.

For example:

"I Found These Beautiful Crystal Vases for You in Maine"

"The History Behind Our Hand Crafted Wall Clocks"

"Why 9 Out of 10 Customers Prefer Our New Steamer"

Then in your email continue on with the story that you started. Emphasize the human connection. Your customers want to buy from a person, not from a nameless, faceless eBay store or website.

5. Have fun. A little fun and humor in your email title can go a long way. Have fun! Be creative.

This past holiday season I received an email with a title that read... "A Sale So Hot Even Santa Stopped to Shop!"

I opened this email immediately!

When you look at these headlines with a fresh "eye" you'll see that most headlines today are variations of existing headlines. Go here to get more tips for marketing your online business and reach more customers today.

How to Make Money Writing Online

Right out of the box, I want to apologize for the cheesy title.  I mulled over a few others in my mind then thought, oh just cut to the chase.

The cheesy chase, as it were.

Most people are looking for ways to make more money these days.  I’m not sure why, I mean the economy did an about face, right? I can’t even begin to advise anyone on jobs outside of the home (never had one… well, I babysat once when I was 16, does that count?).

However, I am more than a little familiar with working online. I’ve been at it for many enjoyable years.

I’ve written other articles on Self Help Daily about building blogs, publishing blogs, and making money with blogs:

50 Tips, Plus 4, For Tripping the Blog Fantastic

Bloggers and Would-Be Bloggers, For Your Eyes Only

Being Sly as a Firefox When Blogging

Frequency of Blog Posts

A Great Must Read for Bloggers

The ABC’s of Blogging

There are others, of course – all of which can be found under the category BLOGGING.

I have done very well with web publishing and, if you have the drive and the time, it’s something you should consider.  If you have any questions, I’m just an e-mail away.

This article, however, isn’t about making money with blogging. This article is for those who either don’t have the inclination to blog or who are bloggers who wish to make even more money.  After all, life’s a beautiful thing – but it isn’t getting any cheaper to enjoy it. Below are a few websites you may want to look into.  There are varying requirements and the pay, most certainly, varies.

About.com One of the most popular and informative websites online accepts About.com Guides and Contributing Writers.  Guides are responsible for creating a “web” of resources within a particular niche (subject).  The Guide must be able to write articles that are informative to the novice as well as articles that will challenge and inform the expert.  About.com has a list of subjects which they are currently seeking Guides for.

About.com also has a list of subjects in which they’re seeking qualified writers.

With the reputation of this website (combined with the fact that they’re rumored to pay the most), this would be an excellent place to start you journey if you’re looking to make money writing online.

Associated Content – Associated Content is another great way to make money writing online.  Payments are made through Paypal and, like About.com, the reputation is golden.

As a bonus, I personally think having Associated Content contributor on one’s resume would look pretty impressive.  The same can be said of being an About.com Guide or Contributing writer.  If you were to one day branch out into writing for magazines or books, being able to back up your expertise with these reputable websites could really make a difference.

From Associated Content:

Upfront Payments:  Certain types of content can be submitted for Upfront Payment, meaning we’ll review your content, and send you an offer before we publish it. Current offers range from $2-$15. Be sure to read our Upfront Payment guidelines before choosing this option.

Assignments:  Need an idea? Just look at our Assignment Desk – the Web’s first – and claim one! Many assignments offer Upfront Payment. Claim one of these opportunities and we’ll send you the advertised payment amount if your content meets the requirements. Once you’re established on Associated Content, you can apply to our Featured Contributor program. Featured Contributors have access to top-dollar assignments for AssociatedContent.com and partner sites (these assignments typically pay between $10 and $100 upfront).

Performance Payments: Every piece of content you publish on AssociatedContent.com generates unlimited revenue for you based on the amount of traffic it receives (in addition to any Upfront Payment).

You earn money for every one thousand page views your content generates (PPM™ rate). The baseline PPM™ rate is currently $1.50 – meaning if you generate 30,000 page views, you’re paid $45.00 in Performance Payments. As your library of content grows and your total page views accumulate, your Clout level increases. When you reach Clout 7 and beyond, your PPM™ rate will gradually increase up to a maximum of $2.00 per thousand page views. Click here to read more about the Clout system.

Our top Contributors earn hundreds (in some cases, thousands!) of dollars per month in Performance Payments – and so can you. Performance Payments are sent monthly and are based on an aggregate of the page views on all your content – the more you publish, the more you can earn!

E-How.com – Finally, E-How.com is a fun way to make money online.  This is actually the only one of the three suggestions here that I write for.  I plan to look into the others, however, simply because I love to write.  As someone who writes, I’ve found that the best way to hone your writing and keep your skills sharp is to use them as often as possible.

When I first signed up with E-How, I found that (instantly) doing extra writing made words flow more freely.  When anyone asks me how I come up with so much to write about and how I keep the well from running dry – my answer’s always the same:  I never stop!

E-how articles show up incredibly well in Google, and since your payment is based upon the number of eyes that read your article – this is a very good thing for you.

  1. Look to the past, as in the Public Domain. Books that were written prior to 1930 often carry a wealth of information.  I use them often in my research – after all, a lot of advice simply doesn’t change.  I also read them for fun.  I recently began reading a book filled with tips and advice from teachers (Copyright 1918) and principals.  The book reads beautifully and is like a journey into history each time I open the book.  The point is, I grabbed a notebook and pen a few nights ago, while reading this amazing book, and counted up information that could potentially be converted into 100 articles.  Truth be told, I flat-out quit at 100 – it was undoubtedly a lot more.  The same could be said for countless other books in the public domain.
  2. Are you a fan of libraries? I (along with daughters #1 and #3 aka Emily and Stephany) could spend days on end in a library – assuming coffee is served. Often.  You could very well take a great notebook and a couple of pens to your local library and research a given subject.  Accumulate as much great information as possible and turn it into articles.
  3. You can also write informative how-to articles and tutorials about things you’re good at or things you know how to do. I’m an avid cook, so I’ve written several articles centered around cooking and recipes. For someone who’s kitchen is their favorite playground, turning out articles like this takes very, very, very little time.

When it comes to making money writing online, it’s like a lot of other things in life – you can make as little or as much as you’d like.  Nothing can stop you except your own goals and your own determination.

These are, of course, just three of the many places available to make money writing online.  There are many others.  I’m in the process of checking into the others for a follow-up post, but I wanted to go ahead and run with these three.

Cheesy title and all.

Writers, here’s something really fun: I Write Like is a website that will analyze your writing and tell you which author you “write like.” They’ll compare your writing style to some of the greatest authors in the world and let you know who’s style yours’ most resembles.

I entered a few paragraphs from a recent blog post and I was told that my writing most resembles Gertrude Stein.  I wasn’t familiar with the author, so I embarked on a little research.  The first quote attributed to Gertrude Stein told me that I Write Like is onto something: “I do want to get rich, but I never want to do what there is to do to get rich.”

She had another quote that sounded pretty much like me too: “To write is to write is to write is to write is to write is to write is to write”.
